In 2007 the Twin Cities LISC incorporated the Corridor Development Initiative (CDI) into its operations to further community development efforts across the region, and to build working relationships with new suburban partners. The Corridor Development Initiative originated as a program of the Center for Neighborhoods, a nonprofit organization that served the Twin Cities region as an incubator of innovation at the neighborhood level. Gretchen Nicholls, previous Executive Director of the Center for Neighborhoods, joined the LISC staff in 2007 as a Program Officer coordinating the Corridor Development Initiative.

Today the Corridor Development Initiative is seen as a national model, and has been replicated in other parts of the country. CDI serves as a resource for the broader network of LISC offices and efforts.
